Complex geometries in 3D printing: the Jet Engine Bracket case
Roboze Carbon PA properties
Roboze Carbon PA, as it is a polymeric composite material, has a key role in several sectors as combines lightness and resistance. The potentialities of this material allow different Metal Replacement applications and solutions: thanks to its 138 MPa tensile strength, Roboze Carbon PA is the strongest composite material with polyamide matrix in the FFF technology market.
Those sectors like Automotive, Motorsport and Aerospace take advantage of polymers’ lightness. In these industries, the lightness of the component is a fundamental feature because the reduction of weight guarantees the reduction of consumptions and emissions, as well as the increase of the vehicle or aircraft performances.
The case of a 3D printed Jet Engine Bracket
We used Carbon PA to print a Jet Engine Bracket, that is one of the brackets supporting the turbofan motors, anchored to the plane’s wings.
In particular, the aeronautic industry is taking relevant steps forward in terms of the rationalization of weights, even thanks to the implementation of Generative Design and Topological Optimization.
Generally, a component, that is subject to some strengths, must be mathematically validated before being realized: validating a component means doing mathematical calculations with simulations that guarantee the designer the real resistance of the three-dimensional model he produced.
Through the Topological Optimization, it is possible to modify the design, using the right material, according to the resistance we want to get, concentrating it over the direction of the internal efforts of the component itself.
The Generative Design represents an even more important step forward: first of all it is necessary to determine the loads and choose the material’s resistance, afterwards the software generates a complex three-dimensional model that allows to use only the strictly necessary material for getting the resistance of the printed component.
Considering that each additional kilogram represents an additional cost in terms of fuel, the Generative Design permits to obtain a good saving even in terms of weights in the realization of components with complex geometries.
The advantages of Roboze technologies
The FFF 3D printing solutions with Roboze materials like Carbon PA or Carbon PEEK guarantee to save time and money in the realization of finished parts with the same mechanical properties of light alloys like aluminium and titanium.
